CSA Loreto
Thanks to a robust community of members, we're preparing for Season 3 of Loreto CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture)!
For two years Loreto CSA has provided the convenience of paying ahead for the season to receive weekly organic veggie deliveries directly to Loreto Bay at a fair price. As a group, we are supporting a local farmer as he steps into the front line of climate challenges and experiments with the local soil, air, and water to grow and deliver fresh vegetables in desert conditions. And what do the members get out of it? The health benefit of nutritious organic food, and enjoyment of membership in a thriving, cutting-edge community project.
In addition to weekly fresh veggies, CSA benefits include:
As members, we each provide approximately 15 service hours over the 5-month season, either at
Rancho Doña Chela to sort/pack veggies, or at Loreto Bay distribution at AZUL.
We pay in advance for the season $6,000 MX as a commitment for the 5-month season
(Dec 13, 2019-April 10, 2020) This is a bargain for a weekly basket of organic vegetables.
If you do not plan to be in Loreto for the full five month growing season, you have options:
The first harvest of Season 3 is scheduled for December 13, 2019 for an 18 week season that
ends on April 10, 2020. As of now we have 18 memberships and the door is still open for
new members. If you know anyone interested, send them our way!
It takes a pueblo - comments from Season 2:
"I thought the farm experience was extremely enjoyable. To see the produce brought straight in and
distributed into the baskets gave me a new perception and appreciation of the term ‘garden to table‘.
We had a team that worked very well together to enhance the experience! Because it was my first time at
the farm I was a little apprehensive, but there was no need to worry about it at all!" ~ CSA Member
“The balance of nature, showing its value and potential. Day by day I am excited to
work on what I love.” ~ Jorge Magdaleno (CSA farmer)
"I want to thank each and every one of you for being such a hardworking part of this community of
our CSA. We are a team and could not make this happen without the participation and dedication to
every one involved... all of the membership, including of course, Jorge Magdaleno, Edith and their family,
and the generosity of Gastroteca AZUL’s Mario and Juliann. But it is the members, all of us, who make
it the amazing project that it is." ~ CSA Core Team Member

In addition to weekly fresh veggies, CSA benefits include:
- members' sharing of recipes, tips, and healthy eating ideas,
- food prep demos (new for Season 3!),
- at least one event hosted by the farmer's family, and
- an inspired farm-to-table dinner at Rancho Doña Chela (at a CSA discount).
As members, we each provide approximately 15 service hours over the 5-month season, either at

If you do not plan to be in Loreto for the full five month growing season, you have options:
- you can split a share, you can have a friend pick up your basket, or
- you can donate it to ONCO Loreto, the local cancer support group, so they can distribute
- fresh vegetables to women undergoing cancer treatment in Loreto.
