Fonatur will be required to shutoff water service in all of Nopolo beginning at midnight on Tuesday night running through about 1pm on Wednesday April 25th. This shutoff is required in order to be able to change out a critical valve that has failed and to restore water service to other parts of Nopolo. Please take any measure you might wish to prepare for this period. Examples might be to fill your bathtub partially with water on Tuesday and or have a few buckets of water handy to be able to flush the facilities as required. This notification is going to all owners, property managers and commercial establishments in Loreto Bay.

Sunday market in Colonia Miramar, a little girl - no more than 10 years of age -claimed to be selling tickets to a school raffle. I choose to read her paper to check if her story was true. The paper named a school I was going to be visiting this week in Loreto, so I said I would see her then. To which she replied she didn't go school. I then knew her request was scam. I looked around to see if I saw an adult watching her. I asked 2 vendors about this child and apparently all the vendors knew she was doing this scam, plus she did other scams of "the money for the medication/doctor" and soliciting change (then claiming it was more than the bill given). I finally found the adult (Angelica) and introduced myself. I told her I was very worried for this child because she was exposing her to get hurt (this is how sex abuse begins in Mexico with street kids). It was clear this adult was in on the scam and abusing this child. I told the vendors to raise their voices, otherwise the Sunday market can be known as the place for fraud. By Mexican law, this kid must go to school (obligatory from ages 5 to 14) and the tutor in charge of her can be given judicial charges. This kid would end up in Casa Hogar in Loreto. According to the vendors, this girl has made lots of money this way from tourists and expats. I guess each person can do as they wish with their money, please just know this perpetuates child abuse that no child should have to bare. I have reported the said adult to the police. Hope this information is useful to others. Saludos!
