Loreto Internado Hostel
Who are We? What do we Do?
This group was organized as an easy way to encourage Loreto Bay homeowners to volunteer some
of their time and resources to assist the Loreto Internado Hostel.
The Mexican Government developed a system of hostels for children from remote areas to ensure
every Mexican child the opportunity to attend public school. This program enables ranch and fish camp
children from outlying areas to live in town at the Internado Hostel during the week. The children
arrive Sunday evening and return to their ranches on Friday afternoon. The children range in age from
5 years to teenager. The Loreto Internado is extra special because it is one of the only hostels that houses older children.
We have a fun group of volunteers who go on Wednesday afternoons to do arts and crafts, sew, knit,
read and basically have fun with the children. We raise funds annually to provide the basics, soap,
dental supplies, medical supplies, linens and blankets. Our funds are also used to provide
scholarships that enable qualified students to continue their education.
There is no long term commitment, just show up and play with the children in whatever activity you enjoy doing.
No Spanish or experience required, just come and be a Kid!
